When it comes to buying your pet supplies, you have options besides having to leave your house and drive to a store to purchase them. Some areas that are more rural or remote may not have pet stores and they may find themselves having to drive quite a distance in order to find one. There is an easier way to purchase your pet supplies online.

Online pet stores offer everything from pet food to pet clothing and everything else you could ever need for your pets. There are many benefits to purchasing your pet supplies online versus in a retail store. One of those benefits is that you have the convenience of shopping right from home and not having to make a special trip or go out of your way to do get what your pets need. Also, you may not see the selection in items at local pet stores that you would online.

Local pet stores tend to only carry certain products and certain brands of products that are not always the ones that you want, and you may end up buying something that you really do not want just because you do not have a choice. You may also see that you spend more money at a local smaller pet store than online. You can usually find better deals at online pet stores and a lot of stores online offer bulk discounts or free shipping deals if you order a certain amount.

The variety of products available online at pet stores is perhaps one of the biggest reasons to choose to shop over the Internet. If you do not see what you want at one online pet store, you can easily move on to another site and see what they have available for you to choose from. You can also price out different items and different stores to see which site you can get the best prices from. You also may want to check out what kinds of coupons are available on the Internet. There are some online pet stores that offer first time customers a great deal and sale price on certain products.

If you have never shopped online and are leery about letting your credit card information be revealed, you should know that most online pet stores and other Internet shopping sites are equipped with special encryption codes and ordering systems so that you can be assured that your credit card information will be safe and secure and not end up where you do not want it.

When you do shop online for pet supplies, you want to find a site that offers free or reduced rates for shipping. Shipping costs can be the one part of shopping online that you may end up paying more money for, so make sure you do your research and shop around at the different sites to find ones that offer special discounts. You can often find online pet stores that offer reduced rates for frequent shoppers and those who order in bulk or a certain dollar amount.

You also want to make sure you know how they will be shipping it and what method that they will be using. You may want to find out about insurance options or other protective measures that you can take to ensure your pet supplies will arrive safely when you are expecting them.

If you have always been interested in seeing what is out there for online pet stores and what kinds of deals you can find take the time and check them out, you are sure to find something that you like.

Here’s an eBook that answers each and every question you’ve ever had about grooming your dog at home.

I know, because I’ve been there - done that. For several years, while trying to save money (and time), I tried to groom our overly-large cocker spaniel. I tried everything - barber kits, special combs, dog grooming kits, even a Flowbee (you know, that hair cutter that attaches to a vacuum cleaner, sold online for years). I experienced varying levels of success - sometimes it looked OK, sometimes it was a disaster.

* I just wish I had a grooming guide like this to help me! *

The name of the eBook is “Grooming Your Dog at Home - An Ultimate Guide”, which is a title that describes everything included quite accurately. Written in layman’s language, this eBook serves as a comprehensive Dog Grooming guide for both first-time dog owner and veterans.

Here’s what you will learn (and how it will help you).

- How to trim your dog’s nails (without mess or pain)
- How to clean your dog’s ears
- Proper clipping techniques
- Complete Skin and Coat Care advice
- Keeping your dog’s eyes clean
- How to brush your pet’s teeth
- How to eliminate “doggy smell”
- How to brush any kind of dog coat
- Dealing with shedding breeds
- How to SAVE TONS OF MONEY!

There’s so much offered, I can’t possibly list everything here. Amy describes all the benefits so much better than I can. Go here: Grooming Your Dog at Home

Wouldn’t it be nice to quickly and easily take care of ALL of your dog’s grooming needs - when YOU want to have it done rather than having to make an appointment and adapt to your groomer’s schedule? That alone is enough for me to pay twice the price Amy is asking for the guide.

Are you looking for alternative methods for helping alleviate your pet pooch’s aches and pains? If so, you might want to look into hydrotherapy for your pet.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a technique that involves using a combination of water and massage to help reduce swelling and pain. It is similar to a human taking a warm soak in the tub followed by a massage or to a human cooling down the muscles with a cool spray and a followed by a rubdown.

Depending upon the type of injury, you may need to use either warm or cool water when performing hydrotherapy on your pet. After spraying the affected area or soaking it water, you then rub the affected limb while gently moving toward the trunk of the body. This way, you move any accumulated fluids up and away from the area that is injured. If your pet is not receptive to being sprayed or soaked with water, you may need to use a cool or warm compress instead. You can create a compress by simply taking a dishtowel and running it under cool or warm water and then placing it inside a plastic bag before applying it to the affected area.

What Can Hydrotherapy Treat?

Hydrotherapy can be used to help treat a variety of different conditions. Some of the conditions that are most commonly treated with hydrotherapy include:

• Leg, paw and joint pain

• Swelling from injury

• Swelling from insect bites

Hydrotherapy is able to help with these conditions primarily because it is able to increase the blood circulation in the area. For this reason, it can be effectively used to treat chronic conditions such as arthritis and joint disease. It can also be used to help alleviate the pain associated with a fracture or a dislocation. In addition to helping to relieve pain, hydrotherapy can also help increase your pet’s range of motion.

How Can I Use Hydrotherapy with My Pet?

One of the great things about hydrotherapy is that you can easily perform it at home and you do not necessarily need to work under the supervision of a veterinarian. In fact, all you need to do is simply put your pet in the sink or the bathtub and then spray him or her down the affected area with the spray attachment. As you spray down the area, give it a massage to further increase the effects. You may want to consult with your physician in order to be certain you are applying the right amount of pressure and that you are massaging the proper area. Thereafter, you can easily provide your pet with hydrotherapy at home.

In some cases, however, the injury is more severe and requires direct care from the veterinarian. In this case, the veterinarian may initiate treatment with medication in order to reduce inflammation and to take care of any infection that may have developed. Once the veterinarian has been able to properly assess the injury, he or she can then perform hydrotherapy and then instruct you on how to perform it on your pet at home.

As a pet owner, you may occasionally need to apply ear and eye medication to your furry friend. For many pet owners, applying these types of medications is a nerve-wracking experience. After all, the eyes and ears are sensitive areas of the pet’s body and you can’t help but worry about accidentally hurting your pet. With these simple steps, however, you should feel far more comfortable with applying medication to your pet and will be better capable of providing it with the care it needs.

Applying Ear Medication

When applying ear medication to your pet, try to follow these steps:

• Get the medication in your hand and take off the cap before restraining your pet

• Hold your pet’s head still with one of your hands and position it in a way that allows you to hold the pet’s ear out

• Administer the medication with your free hand by placing the container right inside the ear opening, being careful not to push it all the way into the canal

• Delver the medication to the opening of the ear

• After removing the medicine container, rub the base of your pet’s ear gently so the medication can get distributed deep inside your pet’s ear

Applying Eye Medication

Applying eye medication can also be a fairly simple procedure if you follow the right steps. Simply follow these steps:

• Have someone hold your pet’s front legs down while also holding its chest. With a smaller dog, you might be successful with wrapping it inside a towel or blanket.

• Take off the lid of the medication and hold it in your dominant hand

• If the right eye needs medication and you are right handed, place your right hand at the top of your pet’s head near the inner part of its eye.

• Lift your left hand and place your thumb in the area near the lower eyelid

• Place your forefinger near your pet’s upper eyelid

• If the left eye needs medication and you are right handed, stand to the right of your pet while facing the same direction as your pet.

• Place the medication in your right hand and rest the hand on the top of your pet’s head

• Reach across your pet and place your index finger from your left hand near your pet’s lower eyelid

• Place your left thumb near your pet’s upper eyelid

• Spread your pet’s eyelids apart with your forefinger and thumb

• Apply the medication to the small gap located between your pet’s lower eyelid and the surface of its eye or apply it directly to the surface of your pet’s eye, but do not touch the surface with the medication container

• Open and close your pet’s eye with your thumb and forefinger a couple times to help spread the medication around

Applying medication to your pet’s ears and eyes can be a bit frightening. While it may take a bit of practice to get the technique down, it is actually simpler than you might think!

Unfortunately, your pet will likely get injured from time to time. In this case, it is important for you to know how to properly care for the wounds by taking care of the bandages used to protect them. With these simple tips, you will be able to keep the bandages properly in place while helping your pet heal.

Tip #1: Keep the Bandages Dry

The most important thing you can do for your pet is to keep its bandages dry and clean. In order to make certain they stay clean, you should keep your pet indoors and within a confined area. When you take your pet outside to use the bathroom, cover the bandaged area with a plastic bag. Even if the ground is dry, you should cover the pet’s bandages with a plastic bag. Otherwise, your pet may accidentally urinate on the bandages. Also, check the pet’s bandages twice per day in order to make certain they are clean and dry.

Tip #2: Keep it in Place

Bandages on pets have a tendency to move around a bit. Therefore, it is important for you to check the bandages to make certain they remain in the right spot. When your veterinarian applies the first bandages, watch carefully to see where they need to be located. If you aren’t certain about how and where to apply the bandages, ask the vet to explain the proper procedure so you can be sure to have it right.

Tip #3: Don’t Let it Get Too Tight or Too Loose

When putting bandages in place, it is easy to accidentally apply the bandages too loosely or too tightly. If you are applying a leg bandage, make certain your pet’s toes do not appear to be swollen. Check the area for signs of increased sensitivity or sweating and loosen the bandages as necessary. Also, check for signs of discharge, redness and skin chaffing.

Tip #4: Prevent Your Pet from Chewing

Most pets will have a tendency to chew at their bandages, particularly if they find them to be irritating. You might need to use an Elizabethan collar in order to prevent your pet from accessing the bandaged area. If your pet seems to be particularly bothered by the bandages and tries to lick and chew the area excessively, however, it could be a sign of problems with the bandages and you should check them to make certain they are properly in place.

Tip #5: Know When to Call the Vet

No matter how closely you monitor your pet’s bandages, you may still have some problems that require the assistance of your vet. Some signs that indicate your vet should be notified include:

• Excessive swelling above or below the bandaged area

• Your pet chews the bandages excessively

• The bandage is getting wet from discharge or blood

You may also need to see your veterinarian in order to complete scheduled bandage changes. In this case, you may be responsible for replacing the outer layer of bandages, but the bulk of the bandage change is completed by the veterinarian in the office.

If you are a practitioner of holistic medicine, you may want to extend your holistic and natural medicine beliefs to your pet. One form of holistic medication that a growing number of pet owners are choosing to utilize is acupuncture. Of course, not everyone is a supporter of holistic medication. But, for those that are, it is possible that the procedure could help your pet heal without the need for harsh chemicals, preservatives or synthetics.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a procedure that has been used in China for thousands of years. The procedure has long been used to treat human illnesses, but has also been growing in popularity with pet owners.

The basic premise behind acupuncture is that a vital life force called chi is flowing through everyone’s body. This force flows through pathways called meridians and, by stimulating these pathways, the body is encouraged to release endorphins to provide pain relief. Acupuncture can also be used to bring about other effects, including:

• Anti-inflammation

• Decreased inflammation

• Euphoria

• Increased circulation

Overall, the goal of acupuncture is to provide balance to the chi by increasing the chi in some meridians while decreasing it in others.

How is Acupuncture Performed?

The acupuncture procedure is actually quite simple. First, a very thin needle that is only as thin as a piece of hair, is inserted in specific points on the pet’s body. In some cases, a mild electrical current is also applied during the procedure or the needles may be rotated or moved around in order to achieve the desired effects.

The place where the needles are placed depends upon the illness or problem that is being treated. In order to accurately identify the correct points, a veterinarian needs to be trained in acupuncture.

How Long Does Acupuncture Take?

Performing the acupuncture procedure takes only about 20 minutes or one hour to complete. For some pets, relief may occur almost immediately. In other cases, it may take 2 to 6 weeks before the pet experiences relief. Some animals, on the other hand, may not experience any relief at all. If no results are seen after completing 10 treatments, the treatments are generally suspended.

In order to achieve and maintain results, it may be necessary to undergo regular treatments. Typically, a pet will require 1 or 2 treatments per week until the condition has been properly managed. Once managed, the treatments may be performed on a less frequent basis.

What is Treated with Acupuncture?

Acupuncture can be used to treat a number of different illnesses and diseases. The most common uses for acupuncture include:

• Allergies

• Osteoparthritis

• Cancer

• Chronic Kidney Disease

• Degenerative Joint Disease

• Epilepsy

• Hip Dysplasia

• Digestive Disturbances

• Intervertebral Disc Disease

• Muscle Spasms

• Skin Problems

If you aren’t sure whether or not acupuncture is right for you and your pet, you might want to consider other holistic treatment options. Possibilities include massage, acupressure, and reflexology. Each of these options can be discussed with your veterinarian in order to find the option that is best for you.

A lot of dog trainers will tell you that you do not have to correct your dog at all. They believe in positive reinforcement, with the absence of a reward being viewed as punishment enough to stop many unwanted behaviors. However, A dog can sometimes behave so badly that it becomes very hard to change the behavior, if it is left unchecked for an extended period of time.

Here are three vital rules to follow to make sure you have a well-behaved dog. Keep in mind that things like barking are behaviors that is very self-reinforcing. The dog’s continued barking allows him to positively-reinforce himself, with out any input from you, the owner. Therefore, your dog’s barking will probably require negative reinforcement, to correct the issue.

It’s always a good idea to implement both positive and negative reinforcement into your dog training regimen.

Here Are Three Easy Tips to Folow

1. Vary how you communicate with the dog when it misbehaves; don’t just say “No.” It really does make sense when you think about it. If the dog misbehaves, you must correct the bad behavior in a consistent manner. Using the word “NO” to stop him from peeing in the floor, jumping on strangers, or barking uncontrollably doesn’t really teach the dog very much. Your dog will hear the word “NO”, but will be unable to apply it’s meaning to the ceasing of any one behavior, because you use it too broadly. Your poor little dog will be thinking, “NO. Okay mom. But NO what? WHAT am I doing bad or wrong? Does this mean I shouldn’t jump? Could it mean Don’t bark?” You can see how this would be problematic for your canine friend. It’s much better to use specific commands when you want your dog to act in a specific way. For instance, use the word “quiet” when your dog is barking, and “off” when he or she jumps on someone. You will have much better results, and you dog won’t be so befuddled all of the time.

2. Never use the name of your dog in a negative manner. If you use your dogs name to scold him, or while he is being punished, he will come to associate his name with bad things that are about to happen. This will train your dog to fear his name, and you as well. Let’s make the previous statement applicable to our life. As a child, my parents commonly called me Annette, as that is my real true name. However, my mother would call me “Mary Jane” when I did something wrong. When I heard those words, I KNEW I was in trouble, and I would want to run and hide. This is how your dog will feel if you use his name in a negative manner.

3) If you decided to use hand signals in your dog training, you want to make sure to use each gesture with only one command. If you do not use a different signal for each command, your dog will be confused. Trust me!

Different behaviors require different words.

Look to this example for some great ideas:

• Ready - Means look at me, pay attention

• Sit - Means to sit on your bottom

• Stay - Means do not move

• Down -Means lay down with your belly to the floor

• Come - Means to come to me now

• Drop - Means take that out of your mouth

• Ouch - Means take your mouth from my hand

• Kennel Up - Means go to your crate

It’s always better to have a plan of action ready, and know what you want to accomplish with your dog, before you begin. It’s your duty as the master to focus on your animal and work to make him the best citizen he can be. Both of your lives will be richer and fuller because of it.

Crate training a puppy is easier than crate training a dog as it is younger than the dog and follows your instructions more than dogs do. You can start to crate teaching it by developing habit of staying inside the crate for long time with your puppy. At the beginning, you will face a bit difficulties in developing habit of staying whole day inside the crate if it did not live inside the crate from the very beginning when you bought it but as puppy learns more quickly than dog, the habit of staying inside the crate will soon develop if you give it your full attention.

Open the door of the crate of your puppy seldom. Do not keep opened the door whole day. So, your puppy will assume that the crate is the only place where it can live. Give food regularly to your pet in the crate. For entertainment inside the crate, give it a ball for playing with. There are many different types of toys you can use. A rope ball is always very popular with all types of dogs and can keep them amused for hours. Another thing you can try is a chew stick or bone; these are very good for entertaining and keeping your pets gums and teeth healthy.

You also want to make sure they get a healthy night’s sleep. For enjoying sweet dreams inside the crate, you must give a neat and clean bed sheet. It is better to clean the crate daily, especially if you are feeding your dog in it. Dog food and water can make quite a mess. Your puppy remains happy and healthy in the crate when it is clean.

Crate training a puppy has many significant benefits. The most significant benefit of is that your house remains clean when your puppy lives inside the crate as it cannot make dirty your house when it does not come out of the crate. Another benefit is that it can protect itself from any torturer thing when your puppy lives inside the crate. Another benefit is that you can lock it inside the crate when someone comes at your home that is afraid of it.

During the training process, spend maximum time with your pet so that you may establish only those habits which you want to see and those habits may not establish in it which you do not want to see in it. During training, all members of a house must visit the crate so that it may recognize them and may protect itself from the unknown enemy.

In short, crate training a puppy teaches it how to live in the crate, about the benefits of living in the crate and protects it. It is better to buy a crate for a puppy instead of let it wandering here and there. When you buy the crate, make sure he enjoys living in it. Always prefer to bring favorite food and things and never give it anything from which it may feel fear or dislike the given thing.

It used to be the case that dog training courses didn’t begin until a dog was 6 months of age. Twelve months, as believed by some trainers, was soon enough. Most people now believe that the first few months of a puppies life are the most valuable and important time to start training.

• Puppies are always learning new things.

• Puppies are learning each and every day.

• They will learn whether we formally train them or not.

• Puppies learn quickly since they have no prior experience in any situation.

• Because puppies are so open-minded, they can be molded into wonderful, obedient pets.

Though there are several training methods, I prefer the one kindest to the dogs.

We can’t cover everything in one short article but here is the big picture.

One: Opportunity Training - This type of training introduces the puppy to training without him realizing it.

Two: Attention Training - When introducing a brand new command, I wait until the puppy is doing that command before I give it. I introduce the command “Watch” as the puppy is awaiting his reward. Because the dog has a very short attention span, you must praise him immediately.

Three: The Sit - Kneel on the ground and get the puppy’s attention by allowing him to sniff the treat in your hand. Place your hand above the puppy’s head. Because it is easier to look up at the treat while sitting, it will naturally go into the sitting position. Only when the pup sits can you use the sit command and give praise. Repeat this about 9 or 10 times.

Four: The Down - This begins in much the same way as the sit. However, this time your open hand is used to cup over the treats. The puppy will use different methods to try and get the food. He can smell the food but he cannot see it. He will attempt to move your hand out of the way using his nose. Then, he will realize it is much easier to simply lay down. Reward him and give the command “down” as soon as he lays down, while his is still in the down position.

Five: The Recall - The recall or “come” command is crucial for the behavior and safety of the dog. This command can be taught at the same time as down, sit, and stay. Have someone kneel on the ground and hold the dog. Kneel or sit a short distance from the puppy. Get the dog to look at you by placing both hands in front of you. Immediately give the “come” command. After your have the dog’s attention, ask the helper to release him. Speaking the command, “come” with lots of excitement and praise as the dog runs toward you. Give him a tidbit in reward and praise upon his arrival. Do not try to make the puppy sit or lay at the same time. Until he understands the one exercise, repeat it again and again.

Remember that even young puppies can be taught quite a bit. The little ones can learn quite quickly when good technique and a great attitude are present. Keep in mind that the idea behind training is to build confidence and a bond between owner and dog. Training exercises should be done in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. This will encourage the puppy to want to learn.
